1869, insufficiently paid cover from New York to Switzerland, franked with 10¢ "F" grill, underpaying the 15 cent single weight letter rate via closed mails through England. Front shows INSUFFICIENTLY PAID handstamp with manuscript "5" cent deficiency, VIA OSTENDE handstamp, plus manuscript "45" centime postage due. Reverse bears ARGAU Swiss transit plus ZURZACH arrival c.d.s., and with NEW YORK / BR.TRANSIT departure. A very unusual insufficiently prepaid letter under the US-Swiss Convention, showing scarce use of the 10 cent grilled stamp, Fine to Very Fine. Scott 96; $285.
