Glenn, John; Shepard, Alan; Irwin, Jim; Bowen, Frank, 6 plate number blocks signed by American astronauts: John Glenn (1921-2016), American astronaut and Senator, the third American in space and the first to orbit the earth (in 1962). He later flew in the Space Shuttle Discovery when he was 77, making him the oldest astronaut to fly in space. Alan Shepard (1923-1998) was the first American astronaut in space (in 1961) and in 1971 became the fifth (and oldest) man to walk on the moon. James Benson "Jim" Irwin (1930-1991) was an American astronaut, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and a United States Air Force pilot. He served as Lunar Module pilot for Apollo 15, the fourth human lunar landing. He was the 8th person to walk on the Moon and the first, and youngest, of those astronauts to die. Frank Frederick Borman II 1928-2023) was an American United States Air Force (USAF) colonel, aeronautical engineer, NASA astronaut, test pilot, and businessman. He was the commander of Apollo 8, the first mission to fly around the Moon, and together with crewmates Jim Lovell and William Anders, became the first of 24 humans to do so, for which he was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
